The Classic Mojito and several flavour recipes

Updated: Jun 24, 2020

Mojitos are by far my favourite drink, hands down (and people that know me, know this very well). This is the basic mojito recipe I've been using for years. It's simple, classic, refreshing and perfect for happy hour! I've also listed some of my favourite flavoured mojito recipes that are just as easy to make: raspberry, spicy jalapeno, passion fruit and passion fruit vanilla and watermelon.

I often add different flavours to my mojitos, depending on what fruits and veggies are in season. I find the best way to make mojitos is in a pitcher, rather than individually in several glasses; however, the recipes below make 1 serving, which you can adapt to a pitcher size, depending on how much you want to make.

Classic Mojito

Ingredients

1-2 limes (juiced for carcass out and cut into wedges for carcass in)

1 bunch of mint (at least 10 mint leafs)

1 1/2 ounces of rum (I prefer spiced rum)

1-2 tbsp. sugar or sweetener

1/2 cup club soda

Ice (amount up to preference, I use 1/2-1 cup)

*Makes one single serving

Requires

1 drinking glass

1 muddler

Directions

1. Add mint and half the limes (or lime juice) to a glass and muddle. Add the other half of the limes (or lime juice) and the sugar or sweetener and continue to muddle until mint has been crushed and limes have been juiced (if carcass is in).

2. Add ice to the glass.

3. Pour in rum.

4. Pour in club soda.

5. Stir.

Raspberry Mojito

One of my favourite mojito additions are raspberries. The combination is a match made in heaven. The tartness of the raspberries perfectly compliments the tangy and fresh classic cocktail. To make a raspberry mojito, simply lightly muddle a handful of frozen or fresh raspberries after muddling the mint and lime.

Spicy Jalapeno Mojito

When I'm looking for a little kick in my mojito, I typically add jalapeno and make spicy mojitos. To make, simply add 1 slice of jalapeno (with the seeds removed or in, depending on how much spice you'd like) after step 4 in the classic mojito recipe.

Passionfruit or Passionfruit Vanilla Mojito

When passion fruit is in season, I incorporate it into my diet as much as possible and that includes into my mojitos. Passion fruit also goes very well with vanilla, so if you're looking for a sweet bold flavour twist on your classic mojito, add in 1/2 tsp of vanilla extract and a hearty scoop of passionfruit after step 3 in the classic mojito recipe.

Watermelon Mojito

Watermelon is arguably everyone's favourite summer fruit, and one of the BEST additions to any cocktail. To make a watermelon mojito, blend 1 cup of chopped watermelon and add it to the classic mojito recipe after step 3.
