Empress Gin and Blood Orange Tonic

This is the perfect Halloween cocktail. Empress Gin has a distinct indigo colour which makes it really fun to experiment with. It changes colours when mixed with different ingredients and in this particular cocktail recipe, it's perfect for creating a colour block and gradient in your cocktail. Blood orange juice is right on theme for this spooky time of the year and a dash of Cointreau adds a sweetness to the cocktail.

Ingredients

2 oz. Empress 1908 Gin

4 oz. Blood orange juice

1 oz. Cointreau (or any other orange or citrus liqueur)

Tonic water (to top)

Ice (for shaker)

Orange twist (optional for garnish)

Directions

  1. In a cocktail shaker over ice, combine Blood orange juice and Cointreau. Shake well and strain into a glass.

  2. Top with a small splash of tonic water.

  3. Layer Empress 1908 Gin on top. To do this, tilt the glass and slowly pour the gin on top.

  4. Top with orange twist garnish.

  5. Enjoy!

** The layered effect is great for presentation, but I recommend stirring before drinking!
